To learn more about a club, contact them directly or follow them on social media/website. Most clubs do not have facilities but will meet up regularly for training.

Belfast Running Club (BRC) was set up in December 2013, following on from the first Jog Belfast SOUTH programme. In less than a year it attracted over 120 members from all over Belfast. Based in and around Ormeau Park it accommodates all runners from parkrunners and social runners to those looking something a little further/faster.

BRC training is as follows for January 2016:

MONDAY: Meet 6:25pm Cutters Car-Park for Social Run (various paces) - Free for members.

TUESDAY: Meet 6:25pm Cutters Car-Park, going to divide into two groups - one doing short hill reps (develop strength) and the other with a long fartlek run

WEDNESDAY: Meet 6:25pm Social Run meet at Shaftesbury Recreation Centre. Free for members

Additional Social Run on Wed, meet 6:25pm at Cutters, easy session

THURSDAY: Meet 6:25pm at Mary Peters Track. Everyone warms up & cools down together at the track, with people doing main training sessions based on their target race distance. Free for members.

SUNDAY: Pilates starts Sunday 8th January, 7-8pm at St. Bernadette's Parish Hall. £4 for members. Course will run throughout January and is specifically designed for runners by the leading pilates instructor in NI, Neil Healey.

Training stops Thursday 22nd December until Tuesday 3rd January, however social run will continue

NB There are usually running groups out early most Sat & Sun mornings and/or doing races. Check out club Facebook or Twitter (@BelfastRunClub) for more details.

You are encouraged to bring a stop watch if you have it. BRC training is led by head coach Liam McGarry. Training is designed to allow all abilities to train together at the same venue, whilst allowing people to focus their training for specific races/distances. Please come 5 mins early (ie 6:25) to help with registration. Training is for members only, with new people able to avail of two week trial period. Membership of BRC is £25 from September (ends 31st March) and includes Athletics NI registration, which gives you discount off most races. Membership closes mid-December

As long as you can run 5k you are welcome to train with BRC. Ideally you would be able to run close to 10k though. If you can't run 5k, please consider one of the various JogBelfast courses. If you can run 5k but not 10k, try a few sessions to see what you think and/or go to the Free BRC social run (6:30pm Mon & Wed) to help you build up to 10k in a friendly and informal environment. Please check out BRC Social Media for other runs, meet-ups and club news.

  • BRC welcomes members and volunteers, with more information on the committee and roles available via their own site (e.g. Coaching, Club Development, Events, Finance, JogBelfast, Marketing/Web, Social, etc).
  • Non-members are welcome to try out training for 2 weeks before needing to join, costing £2 per coached session although social runs are Free
  • BRC are very active on twitter & Facebook, regularly organising runs and social events/races, check them out
  • BRC members are also heavily involved in Storming Parkrun, Ormeau Parkrun and Jog Belfast, and are usually conspicuous at races in their black and neon green tops!
